You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Snødekket er i stor grad preget av varme og det har smeltet jevnt siste uken. Observasjon fra Sogndalsdalen mandag viser smelteomvandlete kornformer i hele snøpakken. Stort sett god drenering for smeltevann i hele snødekket. I øst- og nordvendte botner er det sammenhengende snødekket i høyfjellet. I sør- og vestvendte fjellsider er snødekket mer flekkvis.

Observasjon fra Jostedalen onsdag viser snøgrense på ca 1200 moh i sørlige og vestlige fjellsider, og omlag 800 moh i nord. Det har vært plussgrader i luften helt til topps siste uken.

5-9 mm precipitation. Breeze from southeast. 2 °C to 10 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 24. May 2019

2 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Calm/light breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the north during the afternoon. -1 °C to 5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Regn og varme gir fortsatt fare for våte løssnøskred i lavereliggende deler av fjellet. På de høyeste toppene kan tilfrysing stabilisere det gamle våte snødekket. Her kan nedbøren komme som nysnø. Med lite vind, blir det liten utbredelse på ferske fokksnøflak. Utover dagen kan soloppvarming svekke bindinger i nysnøen høyt til fjells og gi små løssnøskred.
Vær oppmerksom på sigesprekker som kan være tegn på glideskred.
